Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory drug derived from pineapple stem. It plays a role by down-regulating plasma kininogen, inhibiting the expression of prostaglandin E2, degrading the receptor of advanced glycation end products, regulating angiogenesis biomarkers and taking antioxidant action upstream of COX pathway. Bromelain has a variety of fibrinolytic, anti-edema, anti-thrombotic and anti-inflammatory activities. Bromelain also has some anticancer activities and promotes apoptosis cell death.
