Dehydroacetic Acid (DHA) is a low-toxic, high-efficiency, broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, mainly used for mildew and corrosion prevention of food, coatings, oils, leather products, feed, packaging materials and cosmetics. Its molecular formula is C8H8O4, molecular weight is 168.15, and its properties are colorless to white needle-shaped or plate-shaped crystals or white crystalline powder, odorless, slightly soluble in ethanol and cold water, and its aqueous solution is weakly acidic, with a melting point of 108-111°C and a boiling point of 269.9°C.
Dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt (sodium dehydroacetate) are widely used in food, beverages, pharmaceutical preparations and cosmetics. As a preservative, it can effectively inhibit the growth of mold, yeast and bacteria, thereby extending the shelf life of the product. For example, in food processing, dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt are often used in processed products such as cakes and bread that are prone to mold growth.
