The molecule consists of six-carbon cyclic molecule with a ketone functional group. This colorless oil has an odor reminiscent of that of ace tone. Over time, samples of cyclo hexanone assume a yellow color. Cyclo hexanone is slightly soluble in water and miscible with common organic solvents. Billions of kilograms are produced annually, mainly as a precursor to nylon.

Application and Uses:

1. Main intermediate for the manufacture of nylon, caprolactam and adipic acid.
2. Used as a solvent for dyes, as a viscous solvent for piston-type aviation lubricants, and as a solvent for grease, wax and rubber. 3. Also used as a leveling agent for dyeing and matting silk
4. Used as a high boiling point solvent for nail polish and other cosmetics.
