Styrene is a colorless, oily liquid with a special aroma. It is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether. It will gradually polymerize and oxidize when exposed to the air. A polymerization inhibitor must be added as a stabilizer to delay the polymerization process before it can be stored.
